Leura’s Sugarloaf Café open for public
SOUTH West Healthcare’s new Leura Aged Care facility has opened the Sugarloaf Café to the community, fostering community connection for facility residents and the broader Camperdown community.

The café is currently open to everyone from Monday to Wednesday from 10am-3pm, with plans to expand hours following strong positive community engagement.
South West Healthcare director of Camperdown Hospital and Aged Care Services Abhinay Dolar said the idea to open the café to the public tied in with the facility’s person-centred approach to care.
“This place is home to our residents and we want to treat it like home,” he said.
“Just like how people in town can go to a café, we want to provide a café for the residents – at the same time, we want to open it up to the community so families can spend time together, just like how town residents go out with loved ones.
“So far, the response has been great.
“Lots of staff have come by the café, and lots of people have come off the street and having a coffee and a nice time here.
“We have doctors and surgeons coming in – residents spend a lot of time here, having coffee by themselves or with loved ones.”
Sugarloaf Café features both indoor and outdoor eating spaces, with the outdoor spaces being well-utilised when the weather is fine by staff, residents and the public alike.
Mr Dolar said he hoped the café would be able to open Monday to Friday during regular business hours by the end of next month.
“We want to provide care and service to residents and our community and giving residents and the community a place to come together close to home,” he said.
