Libraries get hands on with art

ARTS programs have been a hit at Corangamite Moyne Library Service these summer holidays, with children and families embracing hands-on creative activities.

Branches have been hosting activities as part of the National Gallery of Victoria’s (NGV) Kids on Tour program, with free workshops and activities developed in collaboration with artists and designers.

Each Corangamite Moyne Library Service branch hosted a session of Nature and Us – developed by Olaf Breuning – which invites younger children to explore the wonders of the natural world through guided drawing activities.

Branches are also offering passive NGV activities that kids can enjoy any time during opening hours, such as Take the Cake drawing available until the end of the month.

Camperdown Library hosted Nature and Us on Tuesday, January 13, attracting a crowd of youngsters.

Corangamite Moyne Library Service co-ordinator Janetta Mascilongo said Kids on Tour aimed to encourage imagination and creativity, with a range of hands-on activities.

“Camperdown Library staff said The Nature and Us activity was a big hit with children, and it was great to see them decorating their hollow logs and trees with the leaf and insect potato stamps,” she said.

“We’re delighted to bring the amazing range of activities to our region.

“Families are loving this year’s theme involving parties, connecting to nature, and remembering the past – inspiring creativity and self-expression.”

Derrinallum Libraries hosted their the Nature and Us activity on Thursday, January 22.
