TERANG golfer Judy Carmody has been awarded a life membership of the Western District Golf Association.

Judy’s award was presented in recognition of her contribution to women’s golf over many years.

Judy, and Janet Saunders, are stepping down as co-captains of Terang women’s golf after many years in the role.

The club thanks them both for their tireless work and everything they have done to ensure the smooth running of the women’s competition.

Jo Arundell is stepping into the role of ladies’ captain next year and will be well supported by co-captain Karen Mater.

In other club news, Jenny Meade won the Western District Golf Association senior open championship, played at Lake Bolac last month.

Jenny also represented the club in the Silver Spoon state final, held at Chirnside Park Golf Club in Melbourne.

The annual Bessie Shady Bowl has been postponed due to the wet course conditions and will now be played on Thursday January 19.

Last Thursday was the first day that ladies have been able to take to the Terang course for their weekly competition.

The course has been flooded in many areas, making play impossible.

Many thanks to the club’s greenkeeper, Tim, who has done an amazing job keeping the course in as best condition as the weather has allowed.

Many volunteers are now needed to help Tim with the clean-up and maintenance of the course.

Last Thursday saw a modified 18-hole competition played.

The winner of the stableford event was Jenny Meade with 35 points, followed by runner-up Jane Heffernan on 31 points.

Nearest the pins were Aileen Clarke (3rd hole), Elaine Hrabar (11th) and Lynette Coxon (from off the green hole 18th).

In other golf news, fine weather over the weekend saw good numbers return to the course to contest a stableford event.

Club champion George Beasley (+3) was the winner with 38 points from reigning B grade champion Caleb Kavanagh (7) with 36 points.

Other leading scores were Liam Venn (5) 36 points and Michael Sargeant on 35 points.

Nearest the pins: 3rd Liam Venn, 6th Nigel Bruckner, 8th Gary Huebner and Nigel Bruckner, 11th George Beasley.

Next month is the stoke monthly medal.

Tuesday’s 12 hole stableford once again saw good numbers in attendance.

Peter Coolahan, on the comeback after a long absence from the course, was the winner with the fine score of 27 points.

Runner-up was Billy Wood with 23 points.

Other leading scores included Terry Beasley 22 points, Jane Heffernan 21 points and Jo Arundell 21 points.

Nearest the pins: 11th – Jo Arundell, 18th – Bruce McLennan.

Next Tuesday’s 12 hole stableford will have a 9am hit-off (all welcome).
