Life membership for Peter Bourke
PETER Bourke has been recognised for his many years’ service to the Sportsman’s Association of Australia (Vic. division) with a life membership.

PETER Bourke has been recognised for his many years’ service to the Sportsman’s Association of Australia (Vic. division) with a life membership.
He was presented with his award by Bill Watkins (president of the SAA Victorian division) during last weekend’s annual sports day and presentations for the Corangamite Sportsman’s Club.
Mr Bourke’s long association with the group dates back to 1994 when he first became a financial member.
Two years later he was nominated to the position of vice-president of the then Camperdown club and in 2004 became president – a position he went on to hold for 17 years.
Mr Bourke saw the club through many milestones, events and changes – none moreso than the change of name from Camperdown to Corangamite Sportsman’s Club; reflecting the club’s geographical membership and needs.
As secretary, Mr Bourke worked tirelessly to source guest speakers for each of the presentation/dinner functions, was the booking clerk for these events, produced presentation certificates, arranged trophies, sourced prizes for raffles and organised association sports days.
Mr Bourke also chaired the sports selection panel for awards and through all his work was supported by wife Antoinette.
In 2011 Mr Bourke was awarded the prestigious Rick Scroggie Award for exceptional service to sport and the community, and in 2019 received both the Cyril McDonald Service to Sport Award and became a life member of the Corangamite Sportsman’s Club.
