Light southerly for riders

The weekly education session for juniors this week focused on rollers.

Todd explained to the group how rollers can increase bike handling skills and introduce another way to train while not on the roads.

He did a great job showing the junior rides how easy training can be done on a roller – although most were a little nervous and refused the opportunity to have a try.

The club had its first roll out for gearing restrictions, with Todd educating junior riders and parents why and how it is completed as per AusCycling rules and regulations.

Nine keen riders were ready to smash some personal best times on the night.

It was the returning Bentley who pushed over the line first with a time of 12.15.

It wasn’t clear whether this was the result of his pre-race training, riding for a charity event earlier in the year, or the new road bike, which helped him come home strong, taking out the win and the winners’ voucher.

Second over the line was Archie who rode with his grandfather and finished with a personal best time of 15.18.

The in-form Rieley was on the podium once again, crossing in a time of 12.07.

Other riders who rode strongly were Ava 11.42, Lawson 12.37, Henry 13.38, Josh (fastest time of the night) 9.40, Finny 15.11 and Nathaniel 11.21.

There was a light south-westerly breeze on Thursday night for the senior bike race, giving the riders a break from the windy run of previous races.

Matt Clark and Matt G rode off limit, with Oliver Clark, Finn Baxter, Josh Thompson and Tanya McKenzie chasing four and a half minutes behind.

The scratch bunch of Todd Baxter and Shaun Thompson left another two and a half minutes behind.

The two Matt’s were caught just before Podger’s corner by the middle bunch.

There was a lot on the line, with the first three placegetters to receive a voucher and bottle of wine.

With that in mind, the scratch bunch put in a big effort and managed to catch the other riders at the racecourse straight.

Oliver, Finn and Matt G hung on until Pasque’s corner, with Todd claiming first in a time of 23.53, Sean second and Oliver finished third.

Finn was fourth, followed by Matt G, Matt Clark and Tanya.
