Lions dominate

THE Corangamite Lions’ division one team continued its strong start to the season, defeating Daylesford and Hepburn United 6-1 at Scotts Creek on Sunday.

A first half hat-trick to Roman Fachetti was the highlight, the striker scoring in the 14th, 20th and 33rd minutes.

The Lions went into half-time with a 5-1 lead, with further goals coming from Agustin Turiello in the 17th minute and Kevin Salina in the 37th.

Daylesford and Hepburn United scored their only goal in extra time before the break.

The game tightened up in the second half; a Robert Ayimba goal in the 78th minute the only score.

The win sees the division one Lions still in second place on the ladder.

In the division one women’s game, Corangamite scored a 5-1 win.

Lara Graham scored the first two goals of the match in the 23rd and 32nd minutes, with an extra time goal to Andrei O’Connor giving the Lions a 3-0 lead at half time.

Daylesford and Hepburn United kicked the first goal of the second half in the 70th minute, before the Lions struck back with goals to Lenise Mantell in the 74th minute and Kaitlin McIntosh in the 90th.

The division two game saw Daylesford and Hepburn United score a 3-1 win.

Aaron Corrigan opened the game with a goal in the fifth minute, but that was to be the only joy for the division two Lions, as the visitors scored in the 32nd, 59th and 84th minutes.

The match marked the 200th club game for president Jamie Norton, the first player to reach that mark for the Lions.

In the under 12s, the junior Lions had a 1-1 draw against the Sebastopol Vikings at St George Reserve in Sebastopol.

The home team scored first in the 12th minute, with Nixon Podger equalising in the 57th minute for the Lions.

This Sunday’s fixtures see the Lions senior teams play Ballarat SC in Ballarat, with the under 12s again playing the Sebastopol Vikings, this time at the Camperdown Showgrounds.
