Lions head to finals
NOORAT Terang’s division two cricket side has cemented its spot in the top four after a win over neighbours Mortlake last weekend.
The Lions will head into this Saturday’s final two-day round of the home and away season before finals, sitting second on the Warrnambool District ladder.
Electing to bowl first on day one, the Lions had Mortlake at 10/147 in the 61st over, with opener Neil Kelly (72) the best of the Cats’ batsmen.
Noorat Terang’s Gus Bourke bowled superbly, taking 5/43 from 23 overs while Liam Geary also contributed with figures of 4/40 off 16 overs.
In reply, the Lions shared the load on the scoreboard, with middle order batsman Ned Roberts contributing a handy 43 from 75 balls in an innings that included three boundaries and two sixes.
Team-mate Bailey Kavenagh made 28, David Conheady 26, Stephen O’Connor 23, Luke Kenna 20 and opener Liam Geary was bowled on 15.
Hamish Hobbs was best of the bowlers for the Cats, taking 3/23 from 15 overs, while Damien Goddard, Neil Kelly and Jordan Wareham each took two wickets.
This Saturday will see the Lions at home to Spring Creek while Mortlake will travel to Allansford to take on the Gators.
