Lions host Forest Rangers
SENIOR soccer returned to the Camperdown Showgrounds for the first time in 2026, with the Corangamite Lions hosting Forest Rangers.
The round seven Ballarat Soccer Association division one men’s match between the second placed Rangers and the third placed Lions saw the visitors record a 5-4 win.
Matthew Lyne scored the first two goals of the game for the Lions, with Roman Fachetti then scoring to give the Lions a 3-0 lead.
Liam O’Neil then scored the first for the Forest Rangers.
Fachetti scored his second before the visitors then dominated the scoring.
O’Neil scored the next two to complete his hat-trick, with Jasper Chalmers then scoring the equaliser.
Billy Mroczkowski scored to seal the 5-4 victory for the Rangers.
Lyne was named as the Lions player of the match.
The Lions’ division one women’s team had its first loss of the season, going down 5-1 to the top of the ladder Forest Rangers.
After the visitors kicked the opening three goals, Lara Graham scored the only goal for the Lions before the Rangers kicked a further two.
Defender Kaitlyn Ward was best for the Lions women in the match.
The division two men’s game saw Forest Rangers record a 2-1 win.
After the visitors scored in the ninth minute, Josh Bateman equalised for the Lions with a 16th minute goal.
The Rangers went 2-1 up in the 25th minute, the last score of the game.
Matt Borchers was best for the division two Corangamite Lions.
The Corangamite Lions have the long weekend off, resuming on June 14 with matches against Bacchus Marsh at Bacchus Marsh.
