Roaring start to the year: Camperdown’s Lions Club will have a busy year ahead, with many activities planned in the first few months alone.

Last year ended with the Lions club donating Christmas puddings to St Vincent de Paul hampers, as well as a Christmas meal prior to the break.

While January sees the Lions not holding formal meetings, club members were busy with a variety of events such as catering for a large funerals and assisting at the recent Camperdown Cup.

Lions Club director Maree Belyea said the club will resume normal activities and meetings this month.

“Breakfasts at the saleyards each Tuesday have resumed, as has our barbecue at the Sunday market,” she said.

“We were invited to run a BBQ and drinks stall at the Camperdown Nursery and Mart’s market and fundraising event in Ware Street, where a very successful fundraising auction for prostate cancer was held.

“The annual Youth of the Year contest at club level is being held on Tuesday, February 13, with contestants from Camperdown and Mercy Regional Colleges.

“The evening public speaking section is being held at the RSL Hall from 7pm sharp. This section is open to anyone interested in attending.”

Ms Belyea said the Camperdown Lions Club will also be hosting the district final of the competition on March 23, with winners from zone and region finals from throughout western Victoria taking part.

The club will host the first community meal at the Uniting Church on Wednesday and conducting vision screening at Noorat’s Mercy Regional College campus a few days later.

Ms Belyea said the club will be losing two members, Michael and Skylar, who are moving away, but is calling for anyone who is interested in joining the club to put their hand up.

“Anyone interested to learn more about Lions clubs are welcome to come to a dinner, meeting or activity,” she said.

“Working for your community can be rewarding but it’s also a great way to socialise and have fun along the way.

“There will be no pressure to join.

“Contact any member you know or see about in the royal blue uniform.”
