Lions raffling quilts for play space
WITH other members of Lions Club of Camperdown working to secure funding through grants, one Lion is taking the fundraising effort to the community.

Lions Assist coordinator Marilyn Bourke will be running a raffle to help in raising funds for the Lions Club’s all access play area project in Apex Park.
First and second prizes are handmade quilts, which Ms Bourke said were crafted with her store of scrap material and “a little help” from store-bought fabric.
“Vicky Haymes from Cobden quilted the dragonfly pattern on the first prize quilt,” she said.
“She’d done the dragonfly pattern because it’s good luck.
“Some of the fabric used came from Ms Haymes originally; she donated some fabric for us to use for community stuff.
“The second prize one’s the same again; scrappy stuff I have used, with a little bit of purchasing. I made and quilted it myself.”
The third prize for the raffle is a bath robe, slipper and sock set.
Ms Bourke said she wanted to help the club with their fundraising efforts through something she loved – quilting.
“It was a way of the locals contributing, whereas the bigger grants will come from other places,” she said.
“This is more public, and people walking the streets can donate.
“Michelle will have tickets at Benallack’s, and the information centre will have them later on.
“I’ll sit on the street for a couple of weeks and see how I go as well. It’s just my contribution, and I love doing it.”
Tickets will be sold over the next few months at $2 per ticket or three for $5, with the raffle set to be drawn on September 15 at the Girl Guide Hall.
“It’s just my way of contributing to the Lions club to get some local fundraising from people waling the street or in the information centre,” Ms Bourke said.
“Please support our local fundraiser for our playground.”
