Lions roar in Buninyong
THE Corangamite Lions under 12s produced one of their most impressive performances of the season on the weekend, defeating Buninyong 6-1 in a result that belied the challenges they faced from the very first whistle.

The Lions travelled to Buninyong with just seven players available (well short of the nine for a full side) yet the shorthanded squad refused to let the circumstances define them.
Digging deep and organising themselves into a disciplined defensive shape, the Lions kept Buninyong at bay throughout an absorbing first half, with both sides heading into the break scoreless.
The second half saw one more Lion added to the mix, but even with eight players on the pitch, the young side produced a remarkable turn of performance.
The floodgates opened and the goals poured in (six of them) leaving Buninyong with little answer to the Lions’ second-half surge.

The goals were shared around the team, with Hamish Messer and Ruaraidh Menzies each bagging a brace, while Wilbur Reid and Jay Finlayson added one apiece to round out an emphatic scoresheet.
Nixon Podger was named Player of the Match for his efforts on the field.
The result is a testament to the character of this young group, who continue to show they are a side capable of rising to any occasion.
The Lions will be back at home this Sunday at Camperdown Showgrounds when they host Victoria Park White from 10am.
The senior teams will face Forest Rangers, with the division one women kicking off at 11am, division two men at 1pm and the division one men’s game will start at 3pm.
