Little athletes recognised at season’s end
CAMPERDOWN Little Athletics Club held its annual presentation night last Friday to conclude its 2021/22 season.

CAMPERDOWN Little Athletics Club held its annual presentation night last Friday to conclude its 2021/22 season.
Track and field awards were determined from the tallied results of the club’s three championship evenings throughout the season.
Lila Bennett and Charlie Unwin were the major winners for the evening, receiving trophies and seeing their names etched on the club’s R.L. Clarke girls’ and boys’ championship shields.
Connor Dixon and Sophie Woodmason won the junior encouragement awards for athletes in the under six to under 8 age groups, while Stella Horspole received a 10-year participation certificate.
Lauren Murphy and Stephen Sinnott won the volunteer of the year awards, while Kathy Hallyburton was presented with the Norm and Rose Esh award for 15 years’ service to the Camperdown Little Athletics centre committee.
In their last competitive event for the season, the little athletes travelled to Melbourne on the Labour Day weekend to participate in the Little Athletics Victorian State Championships.
Performing against the best in the state, the Camperdown athletes more than held their own, coming home with the following results:
Under nine girls: Summer Sharp – discus (16th); Zoe Unwin – 400m (20th).
Under 11 boys: Charlie Unwin – 1500m (18th).
Under 11-12 boys multiclass: Thomas Mitchell – 100m (5th), discus (6th), long jump (6th), shot put (4th).
Under 12 girls: Sarah Bridges – high jump (12th).
Under 13 girls: Lynley Sharp – discus (20th), high jump (18th), javelin (21st).
Under 15 boys: Aidan Conheady – 300m hurdles (9th), long jump (14th).
