Little athletics begins

CAMPERDOWN Little Athletics got off to a great start for the 2023/24 season, with good crowds and strong performances last Friday afternoon.
Close to 100 athletes were given the opportunity to learn new skills, make new friends and enjoy a mild night at the Camperdown College sports precinct.
Thanks to everyone for their patience; the first night is always a little bit chaotic and with lots of new athletes learning new events and big group sizes, the night can run quite late.
A special thank you to all parents who gave a hand at events, and went outside their comfort zones to measure, record and support their children.
Thank you to the age group managers who followed the running sheet order; it makes the night easier for all and helps to stop delays for other groups at each event site.
Over the off-season the track has undergone reseeding, and other than a few out of bounds areas, is looking amazing.
Thank you to everyone that has spent time clearing away old grass, moving dirt piles, spreading seed and watering.
It was a very big job and the final outcome will be amazing.
The rooms have also had a major upgrade, with final touches to be completed in the coming weeks (thanks to the Corangamite Shire for its support).
Next week the new sponsored shirts will arrive. These shirts will become compulsory once a (no cost) hire agreement is in place.
All registered athletes are encouraged to attend the optional Monday night training session.
Training is supported by Stuart Canavan and centre coach Kathy Halliburton.
Each week a variety of training will be offered and in the coming weeks relay training will also be added in preparation for the region relays to be held in Warrnambool on November 18-19.
It would be great to see CLAC44 represented at the local carnival.
If any families are interested in their athletes competing please contact Kristy or committee in the next two weeks.
It’s hoped all families had a fantastic first night and organisers look forward to seeing them all back on Monday for training and at the track next Friday at 4:15pm for week two of the season.
