Littlest learners begin schooling

SCHOOLS across the district welcomed their newest students late last week as schools returned for first term and Foundation students attended their first days of school.

Camperdown College welcomed 28 Preps this year, with Prep teachers Kim Robertson and Grace Coker saying the students spent their first day becoming familiar with school routines.

“A special highlight for many was meeting their Year Six buddies and beginning these meaningful connections,” the teachers said.

“After counting down the sleeps for this much-anticipated day, this milestone truly marked a beautiful beginning for our newest Camperdown College students.

“We wish them every success as they embark on their Prep year and start this exciting chapter of their learning journey.”

St Patrick’s Primary School welcomed 18 Preps this year, all of whom have been settling into the school environment well according to reports from teachers.

Lismore Primary School welcomed one Prep this year, while Derrinallum P-12 College welcomed four Foundation students to the school community.

Derrinallum P-12 College principal Caitlyn Fitzgerald said the new Preps have been settling in well thanks to the school’s transition program.

“Even though all the preps this year are younger siblings of students, they are really comfortable and confident to move around the school because of the program,” she said.

“It means we’re able to get them in and get them started with routines and structures quicker and they feel more confident in the classroom.”
