Living in the fast lane
TAJ Woodmason is a name to watch on the go-kart racing circuit.

The 13 year-old Camperdown College student is already making a big impression on four wheels, having won the Victorian Junior Speedway Go Kart title in Mildura on April 11 and today (Friday) he returns to that same circuit to compete for the Australian title.
According to proud dad Luke, Taj is now in his fourth season of kart racing, currently competing in a Yamaha two stroke with a 100cc engine.
“Taj is a member of the Avalon Speedway Karts Club,” Luke said.
“The season runs from October through to May so we’re now approaching the end of the 2025/26 season.
“It’s been a successful one for him, he’s won a couple of club shows, and quite a few podium finishes in some big races, but the Vic title (for 10-16 year olds) was his biggest so far.”
Taj will return to Mildura today with his go-kart proudly adorning the Vic #1 sticker.
“We went to Tamworth last year for the Australian title, he qualified fifth on points before the rain came and washed out the meeting.
“The weather is looking better for this weekend so fingers crossed he goes well and can get up on the podium.”
When not racing, Taj spends as much time as he can behind the wheel of an older cart (with a four-stroke engine) on a small-scale speedway at home.
“The track at home even has lights; it was once the best lawn in Camperdown.”
The big, fast track at Timmins Speedway (Mildura) will no doubt once again challenge all competitors and with a top speed of just on 100 kilometres/hour the karts will likely be recording some great times.
“He has a lot of fun with it (go kart racing) but I know he loves Sprintcars so I guess that’s his goal for later in life.”
