Local derby awaits

AN UNDERMANNED Lismore team had a 139 run loss to Linton in round three of the Grenville Cricket Association.

Lismore won the toss and elected to bowl in the match at the Linton Recreation Reserve, with the home team piling on 8/267 from their 40 overs.

"We only had 10 players with a heap out" Lismore captain Scott Walker said.

"A big thank you to the guys who filled in, some of them haven't played for several years, we only had three who played on Saturday who have been regular players over the past few years."

Walker led the bowlers with a career best 4/32 from seven overs after Matt Murray took the gloves allowing the skipper to be able to bowl. .

"I just bowled some slow, loopy stuff that worked.

"I haven't really bowled for several years so it was nice to roll the arm over."

Brothers Matt and Andrew Cheeseman were handy additions to the Lismore lineup.

"Matt top scored with 26, it was his first game in two to three years.

"Andrew hadn't played for three to four years, he was looking good until he ran himself out for 13."

Young opener Cooper Cahill started the run chase brightly with 20 from 19 balls, while Walker contributed 25 batting at number five.

"Cooper likes to hit the ball, he's confident with his shots and went for it chasing their score.

"They bowled well to us though, it was always going to be a tough run chase."

Walker expects Lismore to be bolstered by the return of several players for the local derby against Derrinallum at Lismore this week.

"It's a game we always look forward to and creates a lot of interest."

Lismore's under 16 team starts their season tomorrow with a home game against Rokewood.
