Local family tackles trek
THE sound of more than 100 motorbike engines echoed through Mortlake last Saturday, as riders in the 10th annual Black Dog Ride made a quick stopover.
THE sound of more than 100 motorbike engines echoed through Mortlake last Saturday, as riders in the 10th annual Black Dog Ride made a quick stopover.
Mortlake’s David Rounds was the key organiser of the visit, which saw the Mortlake Lions Club provide a barbecue lunch for the 110 riders and local mental health support network Let’s Talk representatives on hand.
Taking on the ride with his brother Murray in memory of their brother Ashley, who took his own life about 26 years ago, he said there was “heaps of love” from the Mortlake community.
“Friends and family are all here,” Mr Rounds said.
The ride was the first time he has completed the ride with his brother, as well as the first time with his son Max.
“It’s awesome having my brother and son on board,” Mr Rounds said.
Victorian leg co-ordinator Bernie Garvey thanked the Mortlake community for supporting the cause.
“We have been warmly welcomed,” he said.
The Victorian leg of the ride began in Echuca last Thursday, with riders meeting up with the national riders in Mount Gambier last Friday before finishing the leg on Sunday in Wodonga.
Ride organisers aimed to distribute all proceeds of the trip to local mental health causes.
