Magpies take on reigning premiers
CAMPERDOWN put up a strong showing against reigning premiers North Warrnambool in the round three Hampden league senior football clash on ANZAC Day.

North Warrnambool just held the edge throughout to score a 13 point win, 8.8.56 to 5.13.43.
“It was a bit disappointing in the sense that it felt like we put ourselves in the position that it was a winnable game,” Camperdown coach Clinton Thomas said.
“We’re getting better each week, we’re progressing especially considering we had four unavailable due to injury from the week before, so we brought in even younger lads, and they held up to the pressure pretty well.”
One of those younger lads was Scott Londregan, who made his senior debut.
“Scotty did well, he’s a tough little competitor, he doesn’t take a backward step, he’s got a bit of flexibility and a bit of speed.
“He slotted in pretty well for his first game.”
Josh Place was best for Camperdown in the loss.
“JP had a cracking game, the last couple of weeks we’ve been playing him in a slightly different role as opposed to his classic defender role, and he’s really stepped up.
“He still brings that same intensity and defensive pressure pretty much wherever he plays, which is what we’ve been needing in terms of being a little bit more competitive in other areas in the field.”
Another to stand up was recruit Bailey Thompson, who had 20 possessions as well as laying nine tackles.
“Bailey’s starting to adjust to the different style of play to what they play up north and I guess also adjusting to the different role that he is playing.
“He continues to find his feet, he’s putting up some pretty good numbers there and he’s having a real impact.”
The Camperdown mentor said playing on Anzac Day was special for his team.
“We have a couple of boys in Gryff Dwyer and Darcy Vick both playing, who served 12 months in the defence force last year.
“Griff is still in the army reserves and Darcy’s finished up, so it’s one of those things that it has a bit of meaning for a lot of the boys, it’s always a good experience to share in a day with some bigger meaning.”
This week Camperdown head to the Reid Oval to take on Warrnambool.
