TAKE a step back in time this weekend at the Cobden and District Historical Society.

On Sunday, a display showcasing local Cobden Scouts and Guides memorabilia will be opened to the public for the first time at the Historical Hall in Grayland Street.

Society president Judith Gribble said two new displays will be open to the public between 11am and 3.30pm.

She said she is looking forward to the opening weekend.

“We have a couple of new members that gave us a hand with the displays,” Mrs Gribble said.

Former ranger guide leader Elizabeth Wilson said she had donated a number of pieces to the collection.

“It’s good to have the displays,” she said.

“I started the Ranger Guides with the late Christine Ovens.”

Barbara Cowley said she had been a guide leader for about 11 years.

“It’s (the collection) a wonderful record of guides and scouting in Cobden,” she said.

“I’m still involved in the Sherbrook River Guide Camp at Port Campbell.

“I encourage everyone to come along and get involved.”
