Lock your cars

CAMPERDOWN Police are urging residents to lock their vehicles at night after a recent spate of thefts from motor vehicles.

Camperdown Police Acting Senior Sergeant Andrew Raven said thefts occurred between 2.30-3am on Wednesday morning.

“Based on CCTV footage we have seen, we believe there are at least two people within the Campbell Street and Leura Street areas opening unlocked cars and stealing things from within,” he said.

“One of the cars had just a bank card stolen – it doesn’t appear much has been stolen in terms of items. They appear to be after cash.

“There is no forced entry – cars have been left unlocked.

“This has occurred between 2.30-3am Wednesday morning.

“We urge people who may have CCTV footage in those area to view that and notify us if they find something of interest.”

Act Snr Sgt Raven encouraged residents to take proactive measures to protect their vehicles, including locking their cars.

“Don’t leave personal belongings in there – don’t leave wallets, cash, electronic devices and the like – as they become easy targets,” he said.

“If possible, have security lights and cameras – they are deterrents.”

Camperdown Police can be contacted by phoning 5593 1000.
