With support from the Timboon District Health Services (TDHS), the golfers divided into four groups and participated in an organised ‘The Longest Day’ event at Timboon Golf Club on January 5.

The Longest Day is the ultimate golf challenge, designed to test skill, strength and stamina.

Participants are challenged to complete 72 holes of golf in a single day while raising vital funds for Cancer Council’s research, prevention and support services.

TDHS health promotion officer Christie Berry said all golfers managed to complete the 72 holes on the day, in perfect weather conditions.

“Playing 72 holes on the one day is a huge challenge, but so too is the ones faced by those going through cancer treatment,” Ms Berry said.

“Tee off was just after 6am and they finished around 12 hours later. It was a great day.

“Stories were told as the day went on as to the reasons why people were playing and what the day meant to them and emotions were certainly high. It was a very long day of endurance, strength and stamina.”

Ms Berry said the group was grateful to all those who donated and it was hoped this would become an annual event.
