Low rainfall continues over the region

THE dry streak to start the year has continued throughout February.

Terang and Mortlake experienced rainfall results well below the long-term average through the month, with even less rain falling than experienced in January.

In Terang just 12.4mm of rain was recorded as hitting the ground through February, well below the long-term average of 36.9mm.

The highest daily rain result occurred on February 15 when 7mm of rain was recorded over the town.

The figure does mark an increase from February 2024 as no rainfall was recorded during the month last year.

The total rainfall through the first two months of the year stands at 26.2mm for Terang, well below the long-term average of 76.6mm.

Meanwhile in Mortlake, just 11.2mm of rain hit the ground during February – with a highest daily rain tally of 3.4mm on February 4.

The result falls well below the long-term average result of 30.4mm for the month.

The result does, however, mark an increase on the prior year when only 1.6mm of rain fell during the month.

The February result brings the total year-to-date rainfall tally for Mortlake to 30.8mm, well below the long-term average of 66.6mm over the same period.
