Mac’s, Roadhouse best in Moyne
MAC’S Hotel and Mortlake Roadhouse have been recognised by the community in Moyne Shire’s inaugural Love Local Awards.
MAC’S Hotel and Mortlake Roadhouse have been recognised by the community in Moyne Shire’s inaugural LoveLocal Awards.
Mac’s Hotel was awarded best customer service and Mortlake Roadhouse was recognised as the most community-minded business in the shire.
Council launched the inaugural Love Local Heroes Awards, featuring four categories, earlier this year in a bid to celebrate Moyne businesses.
A ceremony was held at Soldier’s Memorial Hall last week, with Moyne Shire mayor Ian Smith and councillor Karen Foster presenting the awards to representatives of the winning business.
Cr Foster congratulated the business owners and staff for their contributions to the shire.
“As a small business owner, I get how hard it is sometimes and how isolating it can be in business,” she said.
“It’s wonderful to see people celebrate together because you’re often labouring away, in your own little patch, not having the time to put your head up and have a look around to see what’s going on.
“It’s terrific to come together, hear about other businesses and hear about how well they’re doing.”
Cr Foster said the award winners being chosen by the community through online voting made the recognition all the more important.
“What I love most about these awards is they’re voted on by community members – it isn’t (councillors) deciding,” she said.
“It was all about community votes, and I think that’s part of the magic of this.”
Cr Smith said the awards gave the shire and residents an opportunity to acknowledge the efforts of business owners and staff during a difficult time.
“The Love Local concept has been great, and has created an awareness of businesses – especially businesses supporting each other and going out in to the community,” he said.
“It is important to support your own businesses, every dollar you spend in a local town helps to support one of the faces behind the desk delivering a service.
“Love Local is a great initiative and I think we need to keep moving it forward post pandemic because it has been so tough on small businesses over the last two years.
“It’s a great way for Moyne Shire to reach out to the businesses, show we are behind them and find out what we can do to help, so I love to see it moving forward.”
Cr Smith congratulated Mac’s Hotel and Mortlake Roadhouse, saying “both are fantastic businesses”.
“If you want to see anybody in Mortlake, you’ll basically run in to them in Mac’s Hotel,” he said.
“The Roadhouse was recognised for giving back to the community, their fundraising after the tragic accident involving Michelle Pillar was one of the great things to come out of an awful event so it is wonderful to acknowledge the work they put in.”
