Magpie soars in vote count
TALENTED junior sports star Indiana Cameron has taken out the Hampden League 17 and under netball best and fairest award on Monday night.

Cameron polled 30 votes, ahead of Koroit’s Hannah O'Keefe on 25 votes and Magpies’ teammate Elsie Sinnott on 22 votes.
“It was a good night and exciting to win,” Cameron said.
“It wasn’t until it got to two rounds to go that I started to think I’d win.”
Cameron, who plays centre for the Magpies 17 and under team, was quick to praise her teammates for her award.
“Having such a great team around me and everyone playing so well probably helped a lot.
“Our whole 17 and under team also play with our Open or division one netball teams which has been great for our development.”
Cameron has cemented herself as a key player in Camperdown’s Open team in 2025.
“This year has been the first time I’ve played full games and been a full part of the team.
“Jill (coach Jill Leader) has been fantastic to learn and play under.”
The Magpies senior coach was happy to talk up her emerging star.
“Indi’s attendance and effort at training is first rate, she has lots of natural ability and ball skills, her athletic ability is insane,” Leader said.
“She’s a no-fuss girl who works really hard and takes everything in her stride, very serious on court and can be quiet off it, but when she opens up she can be very funny.”
Cameron’s mother Jocelyn coaches her in the 17 and under team which can make for an interesting dynamic.
“It’s been good to have her coaching, she’s a good mentor, sometimes we clash a bit,” Cameron laughed.
After last week’s qualifying final loss, Cameron is looking forward to the 17 and under semi-final this week.
“Disappointed to lose last week, it’s great to have another chance this week, hopefully we will bounce back.”
