Magpies bowl over favourites
CAMPERDOWN Magpies Bowling Club’s division one pennant side had its biggest win of the season last Saturday, knocking off the previously undefeated Winchelsea in a thriller, 92-88.

Matthew Brewers’ rink of Craig Skene, Barry Atchison and James Henry were the big winners for the Magpies, defeating Stewart Williams’ rink 28-14.
Brad Errock’s rink of Jamie Norton, Kev Conheady and Greg Teal also had a win, defeating Vince Chapman’s rink 23-20.
Jason Armstrong’s rink of Tom Spokes, Chris Pearson and Jack Paasse fought back from 19 shots down at one stage to eventually lose to Max Heaton-Harris’ rink by just seven shots, 25-32.
Luke Wright’s rink of David Bateman, Len Searle and Ken Edwards went down by six shots to Rhys Jeffs’ rink, 16-22.
Luke found himself five shots down when he stepped up for his and the game’s last bowl and managed to draw shot which gave the win to the Magpies.
Tomorrow the Magpies will be at home at Thornton Street in the final home and away game of the season and will play Colac City.
The winner of this match will finish in second spot on the ladder and earn the double chance come finals time.
The Magpies are currently in third spot on the ladder on 153 points and City is in second on 155 so this game should be a thriller.
Division one teams to play Colac City tomorrow at Thornton Street:
Luke Wright (s), David Bateman, Len Searle and Kel Edwards.
Matty Brewer (s), Kev Conheady, Barry Atchison and James Henry.
Jason Armstrong (s), Tom Spokes, Chris Pearson and Jack Paasse.
Craig Skene (s), Jamie Norton, Darren Coverdale and Greg Teal.
David Bateman will be the manager and the duty team will be Matty’s.
Camperdown Magpies division two (2) team also have an important game tomorrow when they travel to take on Apollo Bay.
Having lost the last four games the Magpies have slipped from top spot to fourth.
However, if the Magpies can win on all rinks tomorrow they are still a chance to finish in either one of the top three spots depending on other game’s results.
The Magpies are currently on 145 points with Cobden in third on 148.
Colac currently sits second on 148 with Lorne top of the table on 161.
Cobden will play Colac tomorrow so the result of that match will decide ladder positions coming into finals.

Division two (2) teams for Saturday at Apollo Bay:

Vicki Brebner will be the manager and the bus (driver to be advised) will leave at 9.15am.
The Magpies division two (3) team have been the complete opposite to the division two (2) team, having won their previous three games and have now climbed to fifth on the ladder.
Tomorrow they will travel to take on top side Lorne, and another win would not surprise.

Glenn Winsall (s), Mark Winsall, D. O’Donohue and Nick Salagari.
Janet Molan is the manager and the bus (driven by Stan) will leave at 9.45am.
The Magpies division three team, currently sitting in sixth on the ladder, will travel to take on bottom side Colac Central.
An all-rinks win could see them finish in the four depending on other match results.

Tom Hose (s), Paul Halloran, David Coverdale and Donna Watts.
Darren Page (s), Peter James, Rene Wyles and Ray Bourke.
Paul Brebner (s), Sam Whytcross, Kerri Henderson and Gerard Broderick.
Ron Absalom (s), John Salau, Bert Sloetjes and Noelene Tolland.
Peter James will be the manager and Tom will drive the bus, leaving at 11.20am.
The Magpies division four team has the big job of taking on the undefeated Winchelsea tomorrow at Thornton Street.
A win would be a great way to finish the season.

Carol Wilson is the manger and her team is on duty.

Emergencies for Saturday are Ruth Skene, Val Coverdale, Deb Noonan and Sophie Pearson.
In division one midweek last Tuesday the Magpies were at home to Cobden and finished the home and away season with an all-rinks win by 46 shots, 88-42.
Len Searle’s rink defeated Janelle Rohan’s rink 28-12.
Peter Reilly’s rink defeated Trevor Roberts’ rink 29-12.
Craig Skene’s rink defeated Ann Scott’s rink 31-18.
The win enabled the Magpies to climb to second on the ladder and they will now play Winchelsea next Tuesday in the second semi-final (at a venue to be decided).

Midweek division two played Birregurra at home at Thornton Street and had an all-rinks win, 75-57.
Stan Adeney’s rink defeated Janelle Edwards’ rink 25-21.
Ron Simcox’s rink had a 21-19 win over Lorraine Battye’s rink.
Chris Pearson’s rink defeated Bronwyn D’Acanto’s rink 29-17.
The win enabled the Magpies to finish the home and away season in third spot and they will now face Colac in the first semi-final next Tuesday at a venue to be decided.

Division three took on second placed Colac City and lost 47-68.

Marg Stephens’ rink lost to Graham Harris’ rink 5-35.
Norma Weller’s rink drew with Gerard Norman’s rink 16-all.
The team has finished third on the ladder and will now play Colac Central in the first semi-final next Tuesday (venue to be decided).

The first two rounds of the Clubs Pairs were played last Sunday at the Golf and Thornton Street greens and some very close matches were witnessed.
The semi-finals and finals will be played tomorrow at Thornton Street.
Luke Wright and Matthew Brewer will take on Craig Skene and Chris McLeod in one semi, and David Bateman and Kevin Conheady will take on brothers Glenn and Mark Winsall in the other.

The ladies have reached their grand final stage, with Kel Edwards and Keira Johnston to take on Noelene Tolland and Elaine Waterfall in what is shaping up to be the ‘new kids on the block’ against the experienced ladies on the green.
Over the Christmas break the club played the A and B grade singles in both men’s and ladies.
The inaugural winner of the Men’s A Grade Championship was Matty Brewer, who defeated Craig Skene 25-8 with some magnificent draw bowling.
The inaugural winner of the Ladies’ A Grade was Vicki Brebner who defeated the up-and-coming Keira Johnson in a contest that produced some fantastic bowling.
Final scores saw Vicki defeat Keira 25-22.
The men’s B grade was won for the first time by Steve Lucas who defeated Chris McLeod in windy conditions, 21-9.
The ladies’ B grade saw Donna Watts defeat Norma Weller 21-10.
Congratulations to Kylea Dickson who recently won the West Coast Region Ladies’ Novice Singles at City Memorial in Warrnambool.
In the final, Kylea defeated Caroline Wojtowicz from the Winchelsea Bowling Club 21-8.
