Magpies bring home the shield

CAMPERDOWN Magpies Bowling Club added to its trophy cabinet with grand final victory in the division four competition last weekend.

In front of a large crowd of supporters, the club’s Saturday division four (3) team capped of a brilliant season with a huge 35 shot win over Winchelsea, 85-50; winning on all three rinks.

Ro Dunstan’s rink of Mark Wallace, John O’Donohue and Elaine Waterfall set the pattern for the day, winning their rink over Colin Williams’ 31-16.

Peter James’s rink of Pam Place, Denis Place and Sam Clarke continued their good form defeating Ray O’Brien’s rink by 12 shots, 29-17.

Rene Wyles’s ever reliable rink of Janet Molan, Liz Riches and Noelene Tolland finished off the day with an eight-shot win over Paul Sorensen’s rink 25-17.

The win will now see Golf in a play-off to decide whether they go up to division three next season.

The play-off will be against Derrinallum on Sunday.

The men’s 100up final was played last Friday, with Jack Paasse taking out the title from Michael Brebner.

The bowling was of a very high standard considering the windy conditions.

The Ladies Presidents’ handicap final saw Noelene Tolland win the title from Ilma Daws.

The ladies’ B grade championship was won by first year bowler Kell Edwards over Marg Stephens in a tightly contested match.

The ladies 100-up commenced last Tuesday and results will be published in next Friday’s edition of the paper.
