Magpies celebrate
CAMPERDOWN’S senior footballers celebrated their second consecutive victory with a win over the Seagulls last weekend.
Hot on the heels of their 56-point win over Cobden the previous week, the Magpies carried momentum into the game on Saturday, playing consistent footy across the four quarters.
“Port Fairy are always hard to beat on their ground so to come away with a win is reward for effort,” senior coach Neville Swayn said.
“We got out to a five goal lead mid-way through the third quarter before they kicked a late goal and got within about six points.
“It was pleasing to see our blokes regroup, hold composure and then come out on top.”
Reflecting on the past few weeks, Swayn said he felt his side was now beginning to gel well, with everyone playing their role.
Round seven tomorrow will see the Magpies at home to ladder leaders South Warrnambool.
The Roosters remain undefeated and have become the league benchmark.
“South certainly have really good depth and they are a highly skilled side who are tough to beat,” Swayn said.
“But in saying that, every game is a new one and who knows what could happen.
“Unfortunately, we might have about five players out due to injury and unavailability but that will give others the opportunity to step up. We’re looking forward to the challenge.”
Final scores at Gardens Oval last weekend were Camperdown 11.14.80 to Port Fairy 9.10.64.
Sam Gordon and Cameron Spence kicked three each for the Magpies while Charlie Lucas added two and Paddy Baker, Angus Gordon and Harry Sumner contributed one goal apiece.
Best for the side were Harry Sumner, Eric Guthrie, Riley Arnold, Jake Dowell, Charlie Lucas and Matthew Field.
Camperdown’s reserves also came home with a win, defeating the Seagulls 9.14.68 to 5.2.32.
