Magpies off to a flyer
CAMPERDOWN Magpies Bowling Club Saturday pennant could not have gotten off to a better start last Saturday, with the division one team having a mammoth 99 shot win over Winchelsea 2.
The final score line of 163 shots to 64 was just the start that the newly formed club was after and has set them up for a promising year.
Luke Wright’s rink of David Bateman, Len Searle and James Henry had a 42 shot victory over David Littler’s rink, 52-10.
Matty Brewer’s rink of Ron Cameron, Barry Atchison and Jack Paasse also had a 42 shot win over Andrew Doyle’s rink, 54-12.
Craig Skene’s rink of Chris Pearson, John Molan and Greg Teal had a 14 shot win over Geoff Hateley’s rink, 33-19.
New recruit Brad Errock’s rink of Jamie Norton, Darren Coverdale and Taj Merrett had the close one winning by one shot over Alex Heaton-Harris’s rink, 24-23.
Congratulations to Kel Edwards on being selected for her first Saturday division one game.
Tomorrow the Magpies are at home to Colac 1 who last Saturday were defeated by Apollo Bay so they will be keen to get a win.
This day is known as Pink Day with the club raising money for Breast Cancer to ensure more families have the care and support of a McGrath Cancer Care Nurse.
Morning tea is being served between 10am and 12 noon.
Cost is $10 per head and plenty of raffle prizes can be won.

The Magpies division two (2) team also started the season with a strong win over Cobden 1 last Saturday, 107-85.
Fred Salmon’s rink of Leanne Fitzgerald, Kell Edwards and Greg Edwards set the scene for the day with a 15 shot win over Darren Mulgrew’s rink, 36-21.
Maria Van Someren’s rink of Graeme Chamberlain, John O’Donohue and Brad Wilson had a five shot win over Nick Kemp’s rink, 29-24.
Peter Reilly’s rink of Andrew Anderson, Greg Molan and Kelvin Rundle went down to Noah Mungean’s rink, 18-30.
Michael Brebner’s rink of Vicki Brebner, Harry Van Someren and Keira Johnston finished off a good day with a 14 shot win over Colin Hammond’s rink, 24-10.
Tomorrow division two (2) are at home to Lorne who had a big win last week.
This match will be played at the Golf Club Green, and a close match is expected.

The Magpies division Two (3) team travelled to Cressy last Saturday and on a very fast green they just went down by 12 shots, 83-95, sharing the rinks at two apiece.
Chris McLeod’s rink of Kevin Russell, Wayne Henry and Ray Bourke had a three shot win over John Spry’s rink, 29-26.
Ian Henderson’s rink of Lud Gungl, Jimmy Boyd and Mick Mahony battled hard all day to just go down to Neville Keating’s rink 21-23.
Stan Adeney’s rink of Les Pearson, Algie White and Noelene Tolland had a good three shot win over John Carew’s rink, 19-16.
Ron Absalom’s rink of Mark Winsall, John Salau and Nicolas Salagari went down to John Nelson’s rink 14-30.
Tomorrow Magpies 3 are at home {Thornton Street} against Colac 2 and the Magpies will be desperate for a win at home.

The Magpies division three team travelled to Colac last Saturday and fought hard all day going down by 41 shots 65-106.
Tom Hose’s rink of Paul Halloran, Barney Dickson and Donna Watts were the stand outs of the day winning over Ross Jackson’s rink, 23-14.
Paul Brebner’s rink of Brent Noonan, Bert Sloetjes and Deb Noonan went down to Ken Ezard’s rink, 12-33.
Steve Lucas’s rink of Gerard Broderick, Max Rippon and Xavier Crabbe tried hard all day to eventually go down 14-26.
Darren Page’s rink of Noel Brebner, Pam Atchison and Pip Robertson also battled hard all day but went down to Noel Paatsch’s rink, 16-33.
Tomorrow division three are at home (Golf’s Green) against Cobden 2.

Magpies division four also travelled to Cobden last Saturday and found the going pretty tough going down by 41 shots, 35-76.
Gary Mitchell’s rink of Gordon Weller, Janet Molan and Andrew Whiteside went down 8-29.
Peter James’s rink of Daryl O’Donohue, Ruth Skene and Kathy Banks lost 14-20.
Carol Wilson’s rink of Norma Weller, Caroline Strampel and Sophie Pearson battled hard to go down 13-27.
Tomorrow Magpies division four are at home (Thornton Street) to Colac 5 with both teams looking for their first win of the season.

In midweek pennant last Tuesday, division one was at home to Colac 2 and finished the day with a 35 shot win, 85-52.
Craig Skene’s rink of Fred Salmon, John O’Donohue and Janet Molan had the close one of the day, winning 24-21.
Peter Reilly’s rink of Barry Atchison, Vicki Brebner and Kell Edwards had a good win, 31-14.
Maria Van Someren’s rink of Len Searle, Henry Henderson and Greg Edwards, had a 15 shot win 32-17.
Division one are away to City 1 next Tuesday.
The manager is Vicki Brebner and the bus, driven by Henry Henderson, will leave Thornton Street at 9am.

Division two midweek travelled to Cressy and on a very fast green went down to the home team by 29 shots, 57-86.
Stan Adeney’s rink of Noel Brebner, Kerry Henderson and Noelene Tolland managed to win their rink 28-26.
Barb Boyd’s rink of Irene Wyles, Donna Watts and Elaine Waterfall battled hard but went down 15-29.
Brad Wilson’s rink of Tim Spokes, Pam Atchison and Ron Simcox went down by 17 shots, 14-31.
The Magpies are home to City 2 next Tuesday who are undefeated after two rounds.
This game is now being played at Golf’s green due to Thornton Street green being cleaned.
The manager will be Barb Boyd and umpire Stan Adeney.

Division three were at home to City 3 and had their first win of the season with a 25 shot win, 76-51.
Marg Stephens rink of Les Pearson, Ruth Skene and Kathy Banks had a 11 shot win, 25 to 14
Peter James’s rink of Gordon Weller, Steph Whiteside and Ray Bourke won21-14.
Carol Wilson’s rink of Norma Weller, Pat Scott and Val Coverdale finished off a clean sweep of rinks winning 30-23.
Division three are away to Cobden next Tuesday.
