Magpies prepare for bowls season
CAMPERDOWN Golf Magpies Bowling Club has ramped up its preparation for the forthcoming season by holding an open day last Sunday.

Thirty members attended the open day, with current club champions Barb Boyd and John Molan rolling the first kitty and bowl for the season.
Two games of eight ends were played and the winners of the Dot and Bernie White Memorial trophy were Kel Edwards and Peter James.
The trophy was presented by Dot and Bernie’s son Algie.
Steve Lucas will once again lead the club as president this season, with Peter Reilly as vice-president, Trish Taylor secretary and Wayne Henry once again looking after the finances.
The committee consists of Dan Stewart, Ro Dunstan, John O’Donohue, Andrew Whiteside, Kevin Russell, Carol Wilson and Noelene Tolland.
The club will field two mid-week teams in divisions one and three and three Saturday teams in division one, two and three (and will assist with a composite team in division five).
Players are reminded that all membership fees must be paid prior to the start of the season.
Teams for next Tuesday’s first round of mid-week pennant are:
Division one to play Colac one at home.

Division three to play Colac 4 at home.

Kathy Banks, Steph Whiteside, Norma Weller and Marg Stephens (s).
Trish Taylor, Pat Scott, Garry Brian (m) and Liz Riches (s).
The duty team is Carol Wilson.
Welcome back to bowling everyone and a special welcome to Kathy Banks who will play her first game for the club.
Saturday pennant returns tomorrow week, so everyone is urged to get along to practice this week and make the selectors job a hard one.
Congratulations to Keira Johnson and Xavier Crabb on being selected in the West Coast Region Wizards under 18 squad to contest the Doug Kneebone Cup at Sunbury last Wednesday.
Results of their day will be published in next week’s Camperdown Chronicle.
