Magpies push Eagles all the way

CAMPERDOWN Magpies put up an impressive effort in defeat away to a strong North Warrnambool side on Saturday.
The Magpies have been competitive all season, their performances often only marred by one poor quarter, and that pattern repeated itself again on the weekend.
North Warrnambool dominated the first period, scoring 22-9 as Camperdown struggled to find its feet in the game.
After quarter-time the game changed dramatically, as Camperdown outscored the home side through the next two quarters to go into the final break down 36-45.
The nine-goal deficit was too much to overcome in the end, with North Warrnambool staying strong in the fourth quarter to win55-42.
Chelsea Baker was best on court for the Magpies, with sister Krystal and the returning Laura Bourke also in the votes.
Mary Place scored 24 goals for the Magpies, continuing her solid run of performances this season, while Krystal Baker contributed 18.
Camperdown will look to end its run of four losses when it hosts Terang Mortlake this week, a side that, like the Magpies, has struggled mightily with injury and illness so far this season.
Camperdown sit eighth on the ladder equal on points with the Bloods in ninth, while seventh-placed Hamilton, who face powerhouse Koroit this week, are only one win ahead of the two sides.
The ladder situation means the match will be an opportunity for either side to jump into seventh spot should Koroit prevail in Hamilton.
In other games around the league, Koroit beat Warrnambool, Hamilton won away against Port Fairy, Terang Mortlake lost to Cobden 27-69, and Portland fell to South Warrnambool.
