Magpies reappoint Swayn
CAMPERDOWN has reappointed Neville Swayn as senior coach for season 2024.
CAMPERDOWN has reappointed Neville Swayn as senior coach for season 2024.
In what will be his sixth season at the helm, Swayn believes his young side is set to take another step forward in the Hampden League next year.
“The last couple of years has been huge for us as a club in terms of development, and in particular the development of our younger players,” Swayn said.
Reflecting on the past few seasons, Swayn said he was proud of the direction the club was taking, saying there was a “good vibe” at the Magpies and the future was looking bright.
“To just miss out on playing finals this year, with the young playing group that we have, is certainly a credit to everyone,” he said.
“I think a few people outside our walls didn’t rate us to win many games so to finish where we did was pleasing.
“It’s disappointing (not to be in finals) but there’s lots of positives to take from this season and we will be looking to be right up there next year.”
Swayn is confident the Magpies will retain the majority of the 2023 playing group, and hopes to add a few new faces to the fold in the off-season.
“Our focus at the moment is on retention and that’s already looking really good,” he said.
“We’re always looking to develop our list with a few recruits but we’re happy with how we’re progressing at the moment.”
According to Swayn, pre-season for the Magpies will kick off as normal early November, however, he will be looking to “change it up a bit”.
“We’ll do a big pre-season before Christmas but there’ll be a few changes just to add some variety. I’m looking forward to seeing what season 2024 brings,” he said.
