CAMPERDOWN had a tough trip to Portland on the weekend, losing 5.7 (37) to 16.17 (113) to the Tigers on Saturday night.

Portland jumped the Magpies early, shooting out to a 26-point lead by quarter time to set the tone for the match.

The Tigers didn’t let up from there, outscoring Camperdown in every quarter to end up with the 76-point win.

Sam Gordon was Camperdown’s only multiple goalkicker in a difficult night for the visitor’s forwards, with Josh Place, Ashley Royal and Myles Sinnott also scoring single goals.

Cameron Spence was Camperdown’s best player, working hard in a defensive line-up that saw a lot of action.

Camperdown now sits in ninth on the ladder, equal on wins with Terang Mortlake and Hamilton but trailing on percentage.

The Magpies will have the opportunity this Saturday to improve their standings when they host bottom side Port Fairy.

The Seagulls suffered a 104-point loss to Cobden last weekend, remaining winless for
the season.

In other Hampden League games on the weekend, Terang Mortlake lost at home to Warrnambool and North Warrnambool defeated Hamilton, while South Warrnambool’s win over Koroit was played two weeks before.
