Magpies swoop on Colac
CAMPERDOWN Magpies Bowling Club’s division one Saturday pennant team celebrated a win in a rain shortened match.
When the rain came, the Magpies had their nose in front of Colac 78-63 thanks largely to the rink skippered by Brad Errock.
His team, which also comprised Jamie Norton, Darren Coverdale and Taj Merrett, held a commanding lead of 31 shots over Anthony Holt’s rink, 40-9.
Luke Wright’s rink of Paul Richards, Len Searle and James Henry were trailing Heath McLaren’s rink 16-21.
Matty Brewer’s rink of Ron Cameron, Barry Atchison and Jack Paase were tied with Tim Hasse’'s rink 12-shots all.
Craig Skene’s rink of Chris Pearson, Kel Edwards and Greg Teal were trailing Will Colliehole’s rink 10-21.
This weekend the division one team play a double heading starting tonight (Friday) when they will play Apollo Bay under lights at the Colac Bowling Club from 5.30pm.
As both teams are currently undefeated, this should be a great game.
Tomorrow the Magpies will travel to Simpson who are yet to win a game but are always dangerous on their slower green.

The manager will be David Bateman and the bus will leave at 4.30pm (driver TBA).

The Magpies division two (2) team also finished their game early due to weather and like the division one team they were six shots ahead of Lorne, 77-71, thanks mainly to one rink leading by a fair margin.
Fred Salmon’s rink of Leanne Fitzgerald, John Molan and Greg Edwards were well ahead of Peter Jacobs’ rink, 34-8.
Maria Van Someren’s rink of Graeme Chamberlain, John O’Donohue and Brad Wilson were trailing premier division bowler Leigh McIlvenny’s rink, 14-24.
Peter Reilly’s rink of Andrew Anderson, Kevin Rundle and Noelene Tolland went down to Sheryl Donne’s rink, 12-29.
Michael Brebner’s rink of Vicki Brebner, Harry Van Someren and Keira Johnston finished off a good day with a seven shot win over Brad Weetman’s rink, 17-10.
Tomorrow division two (2) are at home at Golf to City 2 and another tough match is expected.

The manager is Vicki Brebner and duty team is Peter Reilly’s.
The Magpies division two (3) team were at home to Colac 2 and went down by 15 shots, 64-79; sharing the rinks at two apiece.
Chris McLeod’s rink of Algie White, Wayne Henry and Ray Bourke defeated Tom Watson’s rink 22-18.
Ian Henderson’s rink of LudGungl, Trey Darcy and Mick Mahony battled hard all day to defeat Ernie Andres’ team 20-17.
Stan Adeney’s rink of Les Pearson, Noel Brebner and Pam Atchison had a loss to Peter Colliehole’s team 8-17.
Steve Lucas’ rink of Mark Winsall, John Salau and Nicolas Salagari were defeated by Trevor Nelson’s rink 14-27.
Tomorrow Magpies 3 will be away to Cobden 1 and can hopefully bring home their first win of the season.

Tom Hose (s), Paul Halloran, Barney Dickson and Donna Watts.

Wayne Henry will be the manager and skippers are to arrange transport.
The Magpies division three team were at home to Golf last Saturday and came away with a win, 71-64.
Tom Hose’s rink of Paul Halloran, Barney Dickson and Donna Watts had another good win over Janelle Rohan’s rink, 15-10.
Paul Brebner’s rink of Daryl O’Donohue, Bert Sloetjes and Jimmy Boyd went down to David Staggard’s rink, 11-24.
Ron Absalom’s rink of Gerard Broderick, Max Ripon and Janet Molan had a good day, defeating Trevor Roberts’ rink 22-15.
Darren Page’s rink of Peter James, Brent Noonan and Pip Robertson also had a good win over Richard McVilly’s rink 23-15.
Tomorrow division three will be away to Colac City 3 who are winless after the first two rounds but the Magpies can expect tough opposition.

Peter James (s), Carol Wilson, Norma Weller and Pip Robertson.

Janet Molan will be the manager and the bus, driven by Pip Robertson, will leave at 11.45am.
Magpies division four were at home to Colac 5 last Saturday and unfortunately went down to the away team, 35-63.
Gary Mitchell’s rink of Ruth Skene, Deb Noonan and Xavier Crabbe went down to Eva Hay’s rink, 11-18.
Norma Weller’s rink of Gordon Weller, Pat Scott and Kathy Banks lost 11-23.
Carol Wilson’s rink of Trish Taylor, Caroline Strampel and Andrew Whiteside battled hard but went down 13-22.
Unfortunately, due to unavailability of players, the club is unsure if it can field a division four team tomorrow at Golf against Colac 4.
In midweek pennant last Tuesday, division one was away to Colac City 1 and finished the day with a 12 shot loss, 60-72.
Craig Skene’s rink of Fred Salmon, John O’Donohue and Janet Molan lost 18-19.
Ron Cameron’s rink of Barry Atchison, Vicki Brebner and Kell Edwards were defeated 25-30.
Len Searle’s rink of Chirs Pearson, Henry Henderson and Greg Edwards went down 17-23.
Midweek division two were at home at Golf to City 2 and despite winning two of the three rinks, they went down by two shots, 67-69.
Stan Adeney’s rink of Noel Brebner, Kerry Henderson and Noelene Tolland won 21-19.
Barb Boyd’s rink of Algie White, Wayne Henry and John Molan won 22-20.
Brad Wilson’s rink of Tim Spokes, Pam Atchison and Ron Simcox went down by six shots, 24-30.
Division three were away to Cobden 2 and in another close game went down 57-60.
Marg Stephens’ rink of Les Pearson, Ruth Skene and Kathy Banks were defeated 18-25.
Peter James’ rink of Gordon Weller, Ray Bourke and Deb Noonan went down 17-19.
Carol Wilson’s rink of Norm Weller, Pat Scott and Donna Watts were the winning rink, 22-16.
Due to Melbourne Cup Day there will be no midweek bowls next week.
Congratulations to everyone involved in the Pink Day last Saturday, with the club raising more than $12,000 for the McGrath Foundation.
