Golf started well on the Apollo Bay green but could not keep the momentum going throughout the day and ended up losing on all four rinks.

The rink of Gary Body, John Molan, Ash Sinnott and Greg Molan went down by 15 shots 22-37, despite winning 14 of the 25 ends played.

The rink of David Bateman, Peter Reilly, Jamie Norton and Jack Paasse went down 21-29.

Billy Conheady’s rink of Craig Skene, Mick Mahony and Greg Teal also went down by 15 shots, 12-27.

Kev Conheady’s rink of Glenn Winsall, Graeme Fitzgerald and Daryl O’Donohue fought hard all day to go down by five shots, 21 to 26.

The season has not gone to plan for last year’s runners-up and a big effort will be required when play resumes on January 20with Golf hosting Colac City.

Golf is currently sitting eighth on the ladder just ahead of Cobden and Lorne and will need to win at least three of its last five games to stay out of relegation territory.

Three of those games are at home so a good showing is expected.

Division two travelled to Colac City 2 and went down by five shots, 87-92.

The team of Paul Richards, Wayne Henry, Trey Darcy and James Henry won their rink 21 to 18.

Leanne Fitzgerald’s rink of Kevin Russell, Noel Brebner and Ray Bateman had a good win by nine shots, 27-18.

Chris McLeod’s rink of Terry Place, Mark Winsall and Sam Clarke went down by five shots, 23-28.

Algie White’s rink of Ro Dunstan, John O’Donohue and Greg Edwards went down by 12 shots, 16-28.

This loss leaves division two in sixth spot on the ladder, 16 points behind Apollo Bay 2 in fourth spot and hopefully with everyone available in the new year the team can push for a finals berth.

Camperdown Golf Four (3) team continued on their winning way with a 31-shot victory over cross town rivals Lismore/Camperdown 78-47.

Steve Lucas’s team of Denis Place, Pat Scott and George Bateman had a big 26 shot win, 33-7.

Peter James’ rink of Pam Place, Ilma Daws and Elaine Waterfall also had a big win, 30-14.

Garry Brian’s rink of Barnet Dickson, Val Coverdale and Ruth Skene went down by eight shots, 18-26.

This win sees Gold Four (3) remain on top of the ladder, 11 points clear of Cobden 3 and are certain to play finals at the end of the season.

Camperdown Gold Four (4) hosted Colac Central (3) at home and went down by seven shots, 53-60.

Sam Whytcross skippered the team of Kona Kerr, Andrew Whiteside and Zach Regan and had a seven shot win 27-20.

This was Sam’s first game of the season and it was great to see him back in the Magpies colors.

Isaac Winsall’s team of Barb Boyd, Ella Blyth and Trish Taylor went down by 10, 21-31.

Carol Wilson’s team of John Salau, Keira Johnson and Xavier Crabbe went down by four shots, 15-19.

This loss leaves Golf Four (4) just outside the four by four points.

With three of their last five games at home they are a big show of playing finals at seasons end.

The ladies’ singles final was played recently and a new champion in Barb Boyd was crowned.

Barb played Ro Dunstan in the final and some magnificent draw bowling was witnessed with Barb taking out the final, 25-14.

The first round of the ladies 100 up will be played on Thursday, January 11 with names to be in by January 9.

Please note change of date.

Congratulations to Ro Dunstan and John O’Donohue on winning their way into the semi-finals of the Corangamite Playing Area mixed pairs championship last Sunday.

Ro and John defeated Kathy and Trevor Leslie 17-10 in the second round after having a bye in the first round.

They then continued on in the quarter finals by defeating Hayley Murnane and Stuart Trigg 13-8.

They will now play Robbins and Heaton-Harris from the Winchelsea club for a spot in the final on Sunday, January 7 at Colac Central Bowling Club at 9.30am.

With bowls now finished for 2023 we hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and hope to see you on the green over the break.
