Maker’s market returns
THE Civic Hall was a hive of activity over the weekend when some of the most talented creators descended on Terang for the return of the popular Maker’s Market.
The Maker’s Market comes alive over winter when other outdoor markets enter their winter recess, with the spacious-yet-heated facilities at the hall creating the perfect environment to get out of the elements while still enjoying the market atmosphere.
Maker’s Market coordinator Barry Wickham said he was pleased with the event despite being down on numbers.
“It’s been very good,” he said.
“I think everyone who came was very happy.
“We were a little down on numbers but that was understandable – people had told us in advance they wouldn’t be able to make it to the first one but would be able to make the next one.
“We went ahead with this one and there was plenty of room, people walking around having a great time.”
Mr Wickham said the Maker’s Market will return on Saturday, July 11 and Saturday, August 15 as a perfect way to beat the winter chill.
“We’ve got the heaters going in the hall and it’s beautiful,” he said.
“It was quite chilly outside but inside it was beautiful.
“That’s why we have it this time of year – it is much too cold outside but we’ve got a heated venue and everyone has a nice day.”
Terang Rotary Club president Wayne Reicha said he hoped to see a larger presence of food vans outside the Civic Hall at the next markets, which would help attract travellers passing through.
“Unfortunately, we had three other food vans booked in but for various reasons they were unable to come,” he said.
“We hope they’re able to make it to the next one.
“We want to try and create a bit of atmosphere out the front so we can attract people who are driving through Terang.
“We’ll work on that for next time.”
