Many hands make light work

THE Fonterra Cobden team recently rolled up their sleeves for a working bee at Lake Cobden.
The lake is enjoyed all year round by locals and tourists, and is an important part of the Cobden community.
Local volunteers who dedicate their time to maintain the lake were joined by the Fonterra Cobden team to clear debris, tend to the gardens, and varnish the jetties.
Fonterra Cobden site manager Nick Hayes said the team was thrilled to come together and volunteer their time to help “this great cause”.
“Initiatives like these resonate deeply with Fonterra because we understand the significance of supporting the communities that support us,” he said.
“We take pride in being a major contributor to the region by generating employment opportunities and investing in groups and initiatives that keep our rural communities strong.”
Corangamite Shire councillor Jo Beard thanked Fonterra for providing the support to get the job done, including covering the cost of the varnish and the tools required for the clean-up.
“The Cobden township was discovered purely because of this being a watering hole, when Dr Daniel Curdie discovered it and wanted his employees to reside nearby,” she said.
“The lake is such an important part of our history and needed a bit of love and attention to protect our beautiful little asset.
“The Cobden community has a close working relationship with Fonterra and when we put out a call for help, their team didn’t hesitate.”
Mr Hayes said Fonterra wants to forge strong partnerships with local communities, working together to ensure that those in need have access to quality nutrition, while safeguarding and restoring the environment.
