THE Mortlake Community Development Committee (MCDC) is raring to go as the Mortlake Markets return to Market Square this Sunday.

MCDC president Kelvin Goodall said 36 stalls are lined up for a bumper season debut.

“We’ll have to do a bit of juggling to fit all the stalls in,” he said.

“We’ve welcomed new stallholders and a good level of return.

“With the amount of interest we’ve got, we’re hoping to be able to keep everyone happy.

“We’re excited to return, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive.”

The Mortlake Markets experienced a jump in success prior to the winter hiatus earlierthis year.

Stallholders had increased threefold from previous years after volunteers searched far and wide to attract a range of new offerings.

“I would hope we could do even better this season because there likely won’t be interruptions which we had experienced with COVID,” Mr Goodall said.

“With the interest which has been shown, if that’s an indication of what’s ahead we’re in for a great market season.”

The Mortlake Market will return to Market Square on Sunday from 9amto 1pm.

Market dates for 2022/2023 are:

Sunday, October 9;

Sunday, November 13;

Sunday, December 11;

Sunday, February 12;

Monday, March 13;

Monday, April 10;

Sunday, May 14; and

Sunday, June 12.

Regular favourites will make a return this weekend along with new stallholders, live music and a barbecue.

A raffle will also be held at the first market of the season on Sunday, with funds raised going to Breast Cancer Awareness.

“We usually have a raffle for a worthy cause,” Mr Goodall said.

“We’ve done a couple, including one to raise funds for bushfire relief.

“We want to show that we’re a goodwill market and give back to the community.”
