Max's big day out

ONLY Pomborneit’s division one premier cricket team was meant to play last Saturday, with the second week of the split round abandoned due to the heat.

The Bulls’ division two team had the bye over the two weeks of the split round, with its two division three teams playing the week before.

Tomorrow all teams are back in action, with Pomborneit hosting Apollo Bay in the premier competition, the division two Bulls play Cobden at the Timboon High School Oval while in division three, Pomborneit Maroon play Cobden at South Purrumbete with Pomborneit Gold heading to Princetown to play Heytesbury-Princetown.

This week’s round of Colac District Cricket Association under 17 matches, originally scheduled for Tuesday night then moved to Wednesday due to the heat, ended up being abandoned altogether as the fires continued in the Otways.

This Tuesday the under 17 Bulls play Irrewarra Red at Colac Secondary College Oval.

Pomborneit’s under 16 boys were the club’s only team that managed to take to the field this week.

Batting first against Heytesbury-Princetown at Pomborneit, the Bulls posted 9/163 led by 51 retired from 58 balls to Max Rees.

In his second half century of the season, Rees hit six boundaries.

Other contributions came from Nate Castle with 30 from 30 balls, Sam Tolland with 27 from 44 balls and opener Josh Reynolds with 24 from 25 balls, including an all run five.

Rees’ day out continued with the ball, crashing a ball into the off stump on the first ball of the Storm’s innings.

Rees ended up taking 4/5 from five overs in an impressive spell.

His new ball partner Jonty Raven took 2/7 from four overs, with George Sadler taking the last two wickets with the only four balls he bowled as the Storm were bowled out in the 21st over for 63 to give the Bulls a 100 run win.

This Sunday in the under 16s Pomborneit play Cobden at Cobden.

The under 14 Bulls return from the Christmas break on Friday night with a match against Alvie at Pomborneit.

After a week off, Pomborneit’s under 13 team play Boorcan at Pomborneit on Monday night.

Sunday sees the resumption of the CDCA women’s competiton.

Pomborneit Gold meet West Warrion on the Warrion turf, while Pomborneit Maroon play Colac at CMTP Oval.

Pomborneit’s under 13 girls play Tomahawk Creek at Pomborneit on Sunday morning, while the under 17 girls competition is a week away from resuming.
