McCann top Hampden netballer

COBDEN netballer Remeny McCann has taken out Hampden League’s ‘Dot Jenkins Medal’ for the open division.
McCann topped off a stellar home and away season, earning 33 votes, to be named the league’s best and fairest winner at last weekend’s annual vote count and presentations, which were live-streamed to clubs.
McCann finished five votes clear of North Warrnambool Eagles’ Skye Billings who was named runner-up on 28 votes.
She was also named in the 2022 Team of the Year.
“It was certainly a wonderful surprise; I had no idea I would poll so well,” McCann said.
“This is the first year the medal has been named after Dot Jenkins so that made it extra special; I have a great deal of respect for Dot and am very honoured to have this award.”
While thrilled with her individual accolade, McCann’s attention now turns to this Saturday’s Hampden League open grand final and the chance to bring home a flag with her Bomber team-mates.
“We’re certainly keen to get our hands on that flag not only for ourselves but for Soph (coach) and all at the club. Cobden is an amazing club to be around and a flag would top off a great year.”
Cobden open coach Sophie Hinkley congratulated McCann on her win, saying it reflected her on-court efforts this season.
“Rem is an important part of our open side and is always reliable,” Hinkley said.
“She thoroughly deserved this award and we as a club are very proud.”
