Memorabilia on display

THANKS to a Ready Now grant from Corangamite Shire Council, $500 has gone a long way for the Cobden and District Historical Society in their efforts to preserve and display their iconic historical memorabilia.

Secretary Delia Kerr said they were able to frame hat tags from the First World War with the grant money.

“They’d just been sitting somewhere in a drawer,” she said.

“The grant meant we were able to frame and display them in the shop window for ANZAC Day.

“There’s 20 total, and now we will bring them down, and they’ll remain on display at the Historical Society in the hall at the corner of the Pioneer Park.

“We really wanted to thank the council for making it possible for us to put this together and honour these historical items rather than having them tucked away.”
