MERCY Regional College has enjoyed a bumper month of exciting sports news and results, with 30 students travelling to the Greater Western Region (GWR) swimming meet, and eight students being selected for regional football squads.

Many of the college’s swimmers had only competed in 33m pools, but rose to the challenge of the 50m pools in Horsham, bringing home a swag of medals.

Of particular note were Matilda and Kiarna, both of whom qualified for the state swimming finals.

Matilda won six medals in the under 15 girls competition, including two golds in 200m freestyle and 50m breaststroke, while Kiarna showed the best time in the under 17 girls 50m breaststroke.

Among the college’s footballers, Jaimie was selected for the Geelong Falcons under 18 squad, while the Greater Western Victoria Rebels named Henry (under 19 boys), Rosie (under 18 girls), Sophie (under 16 girls) in their squads.

Four young footballers, Ben, Jonty, Myles and Rhys, were chosen for the under 16 boys Rebels squad.

Mercy teacher Matthew Harkin said the college community was very proud of their footballers’ achievements.

“We wish them all the best for the upcoming games, it will be fantastic to see familiar faces on the oval,” he said.
