Mercy secures grant win
MERCY Regional College has been successful in securing a $5 million Federal Capital Grant from the Australian Government to improve facilities at its McAuley campus in Camperdown.
The grant, which will fund part of the $9 million Arts and Technology building project, was announced last Thursday by Senator for Victoria Raff Ciccone.
Principal Sharon Gillett said she was thrilled with the news.
“We are over the moon to receive this significant funding” she said.
“Our application was for our staged project that incorporates the lift in middle school, new toilets, renewed art and technology classrooms and a stepped gathering space.
“The plans also include a link between the arts and technology centre and the senior school after the demolition of the old external toilets, textiles room and senior common room.”
Business manager Jude Murfitt said she was excited to see the plans come to fruition.
“A significant amount of work has gone into the planning of a new state-of-the-art facility which students and staff will be able to enjoy for years to come,” she said.
“I look forward to the project transforming the learning environment and connecting our McAuley campus together.”
The project will involve both demolition and construction in the south eastern portion of the McAuley campus, visible from Dimora Avenue, including the demolition of buildings constructed in 1979.
Once the plans are finalised, the project is likely to proceed in time for the 2027 school year.
