Mercy students set for production premiere
A CAST of 29 students from across the district will take to the Theatre Royal stage next week as Mercy Regional College (MRC) presents its 2025 production of Cinderella (Youth Edition).

The classic family-friendly fairytale follows the story of Cinderella and her wish to attend the Prince’s ball despite her cruel stepfamily.
Set to a Rodgers and Hammerstein score, the production has been reimagined for a modern audience.
Many other students and staff have also been busily preparing behind the scenes, with the majority of sets, props and canteen items made in-house.
Director Toby McKenzie said he is looking forward to the performances.
“We have a wonderfully talented cast and production team who have worked hard to tell this classic story,” he said.
“The set building students and staff have outdone themselves and it will come together brilliantly on stage next week alongside the talents of our hospitality students, makeup and hair crew, technicians, costume department and front-of-house team.”
“It is a perfect show for families, with a running time of just over an hour and many familiar tunes including ‘In My Own Little Corner’ and ‘Impossible’.”
Principal Sharon Gillett commended the production team and crew behind the scenes.
“I sincerely thank Toby McKenzie, our director, and Madidi and Nikki McKenzie, who have overseen dance and music – our cast are looking and sounding wonderful,” she said.
“It has been fantastic to see so many in our college community contributing in so many ways to another memorable school musical experience.”
Cinderella (Youth Edition) will play at the Theatre Royal at 2 Bath Street for three shows only – Friday, August 15 at 7pm and Saturday, August 16 at 1pm and 7pm.
Tickets are available at https://www.trybooking.com/DCFVK as well as at the MRC office (5593 2011) or Laffs (5593 1469).
Refreshments made by hospitality students will be available to purchase prior to the performance, and programs will be on sale for $2.
