Midweek bowlers head to Winchelsea
CAMPERDOWN’s midweek bowlers had a trip to Winchelsea last Tuesday.
David Wilson, Les Pearson, Pam Atchison and Debbie Noonan played on rink five.
The team got off to a good start, leading 5-3 for the first six ends.
Winchelsea then found form and by the 16th end they led by three shots, 12-15.
David’s team won the four and the next five ends, winning the game 19-17.
Maria Van Someren, Henry Henderson, Graeme Chamberlain, and Donna Watts were next door on rink six.
Maria’s team led 5-4 by the sixth end but didn’t score until the 11th end with three shots, 8-11 to Winchelsea.
By the 16th it was 13-all but the last five ends are the most important.
They only scored on one end, picking up four shots but just couldn’t hang on and lost by one shot 17-18.
Vicki Brebner, Barry Atchison, Kerry Henderson and Judy Borthwick led their game full the full 21 ends.
On the sixth they led 8-3 and were up 14-10 on the 16th end.
In the last five ends they won four ends, coming home big winners 27-11.
Camperdown won by 17 shots overall and sit on top of the ladder with five wins and 76 points.
Camperdown Golf 2 is second, followed by Colac 4, City 3, Winchelsea 2 and Central 2.
Next week Camperdown will play at home against City 3.
Round five last Saturday saw Camperdown’s division one side face neighbours, Camperdown Golf.
Sunny conditions with a slight cross breeze turned out to be conducive to playing good bowls on a running green.
Camperdown Golf came away with the win, 99-90.
Darren Coverdale’s team came up against the rink of Paul Richards and had a day to forget, only scoring eight of the 25 ends and losing 12-30.
The rink skipped by Luke Wright had a close game against Craig Skene and his team.
Camperdown trailed all day until the 22nd end when they hit the lead.
On the second last end, the scores were level once again but Camperdown scored the final end to win 21-22.
Ron Cameron’s rink played Glenn Winsell’s team.
After a slow start, which saw them 9-nil down after three ends, some strategic changes and consistent pressure began paying off and they fought their way back to defeat the Golf boys, 35-19.
Matthew Brewer’s team played David Bateman’s rink and after a close battle the host team pulled away to win 29-21.
Camperdown’s division three had a short trip to Cobden.
A brief pause for afternoon tea revealed a tight match, with the hosts in front by just one shot.
The home side proved too strong, pulling away to a 19-shot win, 89-70.
The team of Ronald Absalom played the rink skipped by Richard McVilly and lost 14-27.
Graeme Chamberlain’s team found themselves up against Trevor Roberts’ team and came off second, 16-30.
A close finish saw the rink skipped by Thomas Hose, against Cobden’s David Staggard, take the win by one shot, 16-15.
Gavan Cain’s rink had the best result for the club, defeating Leon Carrigan’s team 24-17.
Division five enjoyed its first victory of the year.
A home ground advantage saw them celebrate a six shot win over Colac City, 44-38.
Philip Robertson’s team found themselves level at the tea break but went down to Verna Egan’s team, 20-27.
The team skipped by Ton Vermaas led all day, defeating James De Graff’s team 24-11.
