Milestone birthday celebration
MORTLAKE’S Pauline Carter was surrounded by friends and family when she celebrated her milestone 100th birthday over the weekend.

It was a milestone Mrs Carter acknowledged she had never imagined she would reach, but the Mortlake Senior Citizens hall was filled wall-to-wall on Saturday, March 7 in celebration of her incredible life.
Speaking with Western District Newspapers on the day, Mrs Carter said her birthday party was more than she could have ever hoped for.
“When I arrived, I said “oh wow”,” she said.
“It’s lovely.
“There are so many people.
“Family have come from all over the place, some of them I’d never even met.”
Terree Parsons, Mrs Carter’s daughter, said she had wonderful memories with her mother, including riding their bikes from Panmure to Nullawarre to visit an aunt.
“She’s been so independent and still wants to be now,” she said.
“If it wasn’t for her mobility she’d still be out and about doing things.
“She’s been a goer, she’s had an interesting life – she joined the workforce, she had a family, she saved money and she travelled overseas.”
Ms Parsons said the 100th celebration had been a wonderful day.
“She held up so well – I was worried it might be a bit much for her,” she said.
“Her room now looks like a florist shop and she’s happily been going through all the cards.
“She was so happy to see everybody, including nieces and nephews she hasn’t seen for such a long time.”
