Milestone celebrated in Simpson
SIMPSON and District Community Centre has marked a special milestone recently, celebrating 40 years of serving the community.

The community centre was allocated by the Ministry of Housing in 1985 when the Simpson community identified a need for improved social and recreational services, with the centre becoming incorporated on September 2, 1985.
Community centre coordinator Debra Smith said an open day and morning tea was held on Thursday, October 23.
“Three members of the original committee of management and the first coordinator attended along with other members of the community and council representatives,” she said.
“The birthday cake was cut by original committee members Dot Spaull, Wendey Matheson, Joy Beaton and first coordinator Judith McKay.
“Judith’s role was voluntary for the first twelve months before funding was secured.
“A great morning was had by all who attended looking through the photo albums and reminiscing about the early days of Simpson and how things have changed.
“The morning highlighted how Neighbourhood Houses touch people’s lives and the long-term connections they make.”
