As reported last August, the two-story facility was officially opened after residents moved into the facility in the early weeks of August 2025.

An afternoon tea was held on Tuesday to mark the milestone.

Former South West Healthcare aged care redevelopment project manager Janine Dureau-Finn visited the facility to join in celebrations, making a speech to residents, their families and staff.

“On this day, 12 months ago, was our move-in day,” she said.

“By that stage, you’d all actually moved over here, and we were all ready to have a late lunch.

“We thought it was really important to recognise the 12 months that have gone, the time you’ve all spent here together and our beautiful building and the beautiful team of staff that look after everyone.

“Everyone talks about it with pleasure and pride.

“I certainly have pride in it, and I know Jamie (Brennan, South West Healthcare redevelopment and infrastructure executive director) has a lot of pride in it was well.”

Resident Jean Gaut was given the honour of cutting the cake, expressing gratitude towards the staff who work to look after the residents of the facility as well as those who brought Leura Aged Care to reality.

“There is a lot of work that goes into this,” she said.

“These things don’t just happen – they’re not a 24-hour event.

“They’ve just got to get together and work together because they’re dealing with different personalities all the time.

“On behalf of everyone else, I would like to thank you all very much.”
