Milestone humbles Bull stalwart
POMBORNEIT stalwart Dave Murphy admits he is enjoying his cricket more than ever before on the eve of a major milestone.

POMBORNEIT stalwart Dave Murphy admits he is enjoying his cricket more than ever before on the eve of a major milestone.
The four time premiership player will play his 300th game for the Bulls when they take on Heytesbury Rebels at Timboon Recreation Reserve tomorrow.
“It’s been a lot of Saturday’s but I’ve enjoyed it,” Murphy said.
“I probably didn’t take it as seriously when I was younger coming through senior cricket which most guys tend to do but I’ve probably enjoyed the last 10 years of my career mostof all.
“I’m really enjoying my cricket at the moment.”
Murphy has made a significant impact on the field in his 299 game career, blasting 7028 runs including six centuries and 35 half centuries, taken 318 catches and completed 97 stumpings.
He has featured in four division one premierships, captained the club’s top side on two occasions, played in an under 16 premiership in 1994/95 and skippered another in 1997/1998 and won two division one Cricketer of the Year awards.
Off the field Murphy has been just as an important, being president of the club from 2009 to 2013 as well as from 2018 to the present and was club treasurer from 2003 to 2005.
His feats were recognised in 2018 when he was awarded life membership of the club.
The wicketkeeper-batsman said he was humbled to play 300 games at a family-oriented club such as Pomborneit.
“The club has been a big part of my life and I do enjoy helping out and volunteering,” Murphy said.
“It’s a great place to be, it’s full of great people and we have a lot of fun out there.”
He said he was thankful to all members of the club during his career.
“Everyone has played a part in my cricket be it a big part or a small part,” Murphy said.
“Luke asked me the same thing on the Bulls podcast if there was anyone that has had a big influence on my career.
“I guess I’ve probably been lucky to have come through the cricket club when I have with so many great cricketers to help with things and offer advice and get the most out of my cricket.
“Hopefully now I’m passing on some of my knowledge to the young guys coming through senior cricket and some of them are starting to step up and find their feet which is great to see.”
The Bulls are hoping to be the first side to defeat the Rebels this season, with a win set to top off Murphy’s milestone although he will not admit it.
“For me it’s just another game,” he said.
“It’ll be the same as any other week – I’ll take the field hoping to get the win,”
“But if we don’t it’ll be about the enjoyment of playing the game and having a bit of fun with the boys and then having a few drinks afterwards.
“It’s been a great way to spend my Saturdays.”
