COBDEN Technical School could soon have a major remodel – the first in its 50 plus year history.

Labor candidate for Polwarth Hutch Hussein visited the school last Thursday, pledging $6.6 million if the Andrews Labor Government is re-elected at the state election.

“Every family deserves a great local school and the Andrews Labor Government will deliver nearly $19 million dollars across three Polwarth schools and one kindergarten... so kids in Polwarth have the world-class classrooms they deserve,” she said.

“The best teachers aren’t able to do the best job in ageing classrooms and out-of-date facilities.

“That’s why the Andrews Labor Government has invested more than $12.8 billion to build and upgrade schools in every corner of the state – making sure every kid has every chance.”

School principal Rohan Keert welcomed the funding pledge, saying the school communitywas “delighted”.

“We’re very excited,” he said.

Mr Keert said if successful, the funds would be used to modernise the school and complete a “significant remodel and update”.

“We have heaps of ideas,” he said.

“The big thing for me is kids of Cobden and small towns don’t get left behind.

“It’s really important for the kids in small schools and towns have the same opportunities as those in the city.”

A commitment was also given for $1.8 million for the Lismore Primary School.
