MINISTER for Fishing and Boating Sonya Kilkenny paid a visit to Boggy Creek last week.

Ms Kilkenny met with Moyne Shire Council and Curdievale Angling Club representatives last Wednesday.

She heard about how boaters, locals and visitors alike were benefiting from an upgrade to the Boggy Creek Road boat ramp at Curdievale.

The upgrade was completed earlier this year in a bid to boost safety and make it easier for boaters heading out on the water.

Works included improvements to the boat ramp car park, with line marking and sealing taking place to make it more functional and create better access.

The car park was originally made of gravel and at times became inundated by flood waters – leaving it muddy and with potholes and in some cases unuseable.

Ms Kilkenny said the works had made the boat ramp more accessible.

“This upgrade has already provided a huge benefit to boaters, locals and visitors to the Curdievale area – making it easier for them to access the Boggy Creek Road boat ramp car park and head out on the water,” she said.

“We know how much the community loves spending time at this site – so the upgrade will ensure it can continue to be enjoyed well into the future.”

Other works at the popular fishing and boating spot included surrounding drainage works and a new main drain to draw water off the surface as well as rock beaching.

The upgrade was funded through the Victorian Government’s Better Boating Fund.

Better Boating Victoria also provided $136,000 in funding to Moyne Shire Council for the works to take place, including laying down asphalt on the access road and carpark.
